Verstappen scores fourth win of season at F1 Monaco Grand Prix to take driver points lead

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) continued his dominance of the drivers’ championship with his fourth win of the season. It was his 39th F1 victory.

Veteran Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished a season-best second, marking a clear resurgence in his career with his fifth podium finish in six rounds this season. It was Alonso’s best result in nine years, since he finished second at the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix in July 2014.

At the F1 Monaco Grand Prix at the Monaco Street Circuit on April 28 (ET), Verstappen followed up his first-place qualifying finish the day before with a dominant performance in the final, never allowing a single pass. Despite an unexpected rain delay midway through the race, Verstappen was able to maintain his lead over runner-up Alonso, making only one pit stop.

Alonso was able to reduce the gap to around eight seconds on Verstappen, but a mistake in tire choice in the rain forced him to make two pit stops, further widening the gap. However, Alonso was in good enough form to secure the fastest lap in qualifying and held on to second place in the race, making up for four third-place finishes in the previous five rounds. While Sergio Perez (Red Bull – 105 points), who is second in the drivers’ standings, was unable to score any points on the day, finishing 16th, Alonso (93 points) added 18 points to reduce the gap to Perez to 12 points.스포츠토토

Third behind Verstappen and Alonso was Esteban Ocon (Alpine Renault), who claimed his first podium finish of the season. The eighth round of the F1 Spanish Grand Prix continues next month at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in Spain from February 2-4.
