Real Madrid’s number 7 has finally found its owner. Vinicius Junior will wear the number 7 for the new season.
Real announced on their official social media accounts on Wednesday that Vinicius has changed his number from 20 to 7.
Real’s number 7 has a lot of symbolism. Since Lémond Copa, who won the Ballon d’Or with the club in 1958, wore the number 7, many of the club’s key players have worn the number 7, including Amancio Amaro, the ‘Wizard’, who until recently was the honorary president of the club, Juanito, who introduced the ‘Spirit of Juanito’, and Emilio Butragueño, who led Real to five consecutive league titles.
It was immortalized by Raul Gonzalez. The Real Madrid youth product wore the number 7 for 15 years, from 1995-96, his second year in the first team, to 2009-10. During that time, he won six La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League titles. Raul’s place in the team was cemented by the club’s unique “galactico” policy.
He was followed by Cristiano Ronaldo. It wasn’t until Raul’s departure in 2010-11, his second year at Real, that Ronaldo was able to wear the number 7. He broke Real’s UCL jinx and led them to a legendary three consecutive UCL titles, establishing himself as one of the best players in the world beyond Real.
Since then, however, the number 7 has fallen from grace. Mariano Dias, who curiously took over the number 7, was so underwhelming that he was dropped after just one season. Then came the €115 million purchase of Eden Hazard, who turned out to be the worst signing in Real’s history.스포츠토토
Real’s number 7 is back in place after five years. Real brought in Fran Garcia this summer and gave him the number 20 shirt, which was originally worn by Vinicius. It’s a fitting number for a player who has become an integral part of the team with 45 goals and 41 assists in the last two seasons.
Real’s number 7 has finally found its owner. Vinicius is ready to maintain his current form and make the number 7 shine once again.
