Ohtani Second Month in a Row – 4th Monthly MVP of his career…NL Bellinger earns 2nd honor since 2019

Shohei Ohtani (29, Los Angeles Angels) and Cody Bellinger (28, Chicago Cubs) were named the top performers in the American League (AL) and National League (NL), respectively, last month.

The pair were named the July AL-NL Players of the Month, as announced by MLB Network on Wednesday. This is the second consecutive month that Ohtani has been honored, as he was in June. It is the fourth time in his career that Ohtani has earned monthly MVP honors.

Ohtani led the team at the plate in July, batting .282 with nine home runs in 23 games. His OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) was 1.152.The two-way player also made his mark on the mound. In four starts on the mound, he went 2-2 with a 4.97 ERA in 25⅓ innings pitched. He struck out 29 batters.

MLB.com called Ohtani’s second straight award “well-deserved.”

NL Monthly MVP Bellinger has had a resurgent season.

Over the past month, Bellinger has hit .400 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs. His OPS is up to 1.122.

This is Bellinger’s second career monthly MVP award and first since April 2019, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers.Bellinger was one of the best players in the league, winning the NL Rookie of the Year award in 2017 and the NL MVP award in 2019, before falling into a three-year slump starting with the 2020 season. His batting average hovered in the low double digits as he struggled to make contact with pitches. As a result, he was effectively released by the Los Angeles Dodgers after the 2022 season.토스카지노

Bellinger signed with the Cubs for $17.5 million and sharpened his knives. And he came alive. He’s back to his old self, batting .317 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs in 76 games this season.

Bellinger is eligible for free agency after this season. He’s expected to get a “mega-contract” that’s well above his current salary, though not as much as Ohtani’s.
