Kylian Mbappe could be heading to the Premier League instead of Real Madrid.
“Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will not extend his contract,” French publication L’Equipe reported on Wednesday (July 13).
“PSG will have to let Mbappe go this summer unless they want to give him away for free. He will be a free agent from January next year,” adding that PSG will sell Mbappe this summer in order to receive a transfer fee.
Mbappe, who joined PSG after the 2018 World Cup in Russia for a record-breaking €180 million ($247 billion), has since become one of the best players in the club’s history, scoring 212 goals for PSG. He has been the league’s top scorer for five consecutive seasons and has lifted 14 trophies with the club.
However, PSG was not Mbappe’s final destination, as he was also linked with a move to Real Madrid last summer, and even French President Emmanuel Macron had to be persuaded to stay put. However, ahead of this summer’s transfer window, he seems to have made his intentions clear by handing the club a no-contract extension.
With Mbappe under contract until the summer of 2024, PSG are suddenly forced to consider a move for the midfielder.
Real are currently the most likely destination for Mbappe. Real have been linked to Mbappe on several occasions and were expected to be the most likely destination for the player if he were to leave the club.
However, reports in Spain have suggested that Real are not the only possible destination for Mbappe, and that there are other potential suitors.
Spanish outlet Marca reported on Mbappe’s possible departure on Wednesday with the headline “PSG preparing for a future without Mbappe”.
“PSG have confirmed that Mbappe will not leave for free under any circumstances, so it is understood that they will examine his transfer offers from today,” Marca said, adding that PSG are confirming the possibility of a move for Mbappe.
“PSG will get a lot of money for team projects if they sell Mbappe. The amount they could receive for Mbappe has not been disclosed, but Real offered €170 million ($234 million) for his signature two years ago and he now has one year left on his contract,” he said, adding that the amount they could receive for Mbappe could be less than two years ago.
Along with the expected transfer fee, the report also speculated on Mbappe’s next destination, with the media outlet revealing a new name alongside Real.스포츠토토
“Liverpool are another great option to sign him if he is on the market,” said Marca, describing the Reds as a possible destination for Mbappe. Mbappe has previously revealed that his mother’s favorite club is Liverpool.
After mentioning Real and Liverpool, the publication pointed out that PSG would have to choose between the two clubs for the transfer fee, as “Mbappe can sign for other clubs from January 2024, so Real and Liverpool would be the least tragic way to avoid a tragedy for PSG.”
Liverpool have also emerged as a possible destination for Mbappe, and it will be interesting to see if PSG, who have struggled to keep Mbappe due to the lure of Real, can create a tiebreaker in the transfer talks that would allow them to choose Liverpool over Real.
