Marvin Park, a highly touted “Korean” Real Madrid prospect, is set to part ways with the club after seven years.
“Real Madrid wants to sell Marvin Park to earn transfer fee revenue,” Spanish media outlet Pichajes reported on Tuesday (June 10).
The 2000-born winger, who began playing for the world’s top club in 2016, is well known among Korean soccer fans because his mother is Korean.
Ahead of the 2022/23 season, Marvin Park was sent on loan to Spanish second division side UDlas Palmas in La Liga 2, but he failed to meet Real’s expectations, scoring just one goal and one assist in 24 appearances.
At the age of 23, he was no longer considered a prospect, so Real decided to release the talented youngster rather than give him more time and earn a transfer fee.
“Having finished both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, Real have begun their work, already moving to release players such as Mariano Dias and Eden Hazard,” the outlet said.
“Real’s offloading is not over. Now, Real hopes to sell Marvin Park and earn close to €2 million ($2.8 billion).”
At one point, the South Korean youth national team was the center of attention, as the club kept trying to convince the player to stay.
Born and raised in Spain, Marvin Park’s mother is Korean and his father is Nigerian, so he has three nationalities: Spanish, Nigerian, and Korean.스포츠토토
As such, he can wear the Taeguk mark if he chooses to. Chung Jung-yong, the head coach of the South Korean U-20 team at the time, tried to convince Marvin Park to play for the national team, but he ultimately chose the Spanish youth national team.
However, Marvin Park has only played for the Spanish U-19 national team and has not yet played for the senior national team, so according to FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) rules, he can be called up to the South Korean national team at any time if he and the Korean Football Association agree.
