Kiwoom-Doosan match, ‘professional baseball hit’, canceled after 2 years due to fine dust

The professional baseball match between Doosan and Kiwoom was canceled due to the yellow dust that covered the entire Korean Peninsula.

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced that the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League match between Doosan and Kiwoom, scheduled to be held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul at 6:30 pm on the 12th, was canceled due to fine dust. It is the influence of the yellow sand originating from the Gobi Desert in China and the Inner Mongolia Plateau.

The Ministry of Environment upgraded the national yellow dust crisis warning level from ‘interest’ to ‘caution’ at 7 am on the same day. The caution level is issued when a fine dust warning is issued due to yellow dust and the possibility of a large-scale disaster appears.스포츠토토

According to the KBO league rules, the game can be canceled if the concentration of fine dust exceeds 300 μg/m3 for two hours or more, and the concentration of ultra-fine dust exceeds 150 μg/m3. Previously, in the futures (2nd division) league, the LG-kt match (Iksan), Doosan-SSG match (Ganghwa), and Hanwha-Goyang (Goyang) matches were not held due to the aftermath of fine dust.

It has been about two years since May 8, 2021, that the game was canceled due to fine dust. At that time, four games were canceled: Hanwha-LG (Jamsil), Kiwoom-SSG (Literature), NC-kt (Suwon), and Doosan-KIA (Gwangju).

Doosan minimized outdoor training due to fine dust before the game was canceled that day. Doosan coach Lee Seung-yeop said, “Because of the fine dust, only the defense training was conducted outdoors, and the rest of the training was conducted indoors. The indoor air is not very good, but it was decided for the health of the players.”

The Kiwoom team arrived at the stadium at 4:20 pm that day, but no players were seen to warm up. Kiwoom coach Hong Won-ki said, “The Futures League was canceled due to fine dust.”

Kiwoom, who has recently been mired in five consecutive losses, decided to bet first starter An Woo-jin instead of Jang Jae-young, who was scheduled to start that day, in the game on the 13th. On this day, starting pitcher Kim Dong-joo of Doosan is scheduled to play on the 13th after resting for another day.
