The charges against Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood for attempted rape and assault have been dropped.
The British BBC said on the 3rd (Korean time), “The prosecutor’s office decided to stop the investigation as the main witnesses withdrew their intention to accuse Greenwood.”
A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office explained the reason: “It is necessary to continue reviewing the case. In this case, a key witness has withdrawn his complaint and new data no longer confirms the charges. We had an obligation to stop the investigation.” .
“We have explained our decision to the parties concerned. We will encourage potential victims to step up and report to the police and we will prosecute anyone wherever the law falls.” 스포츠토토
In January of last year, images and videos of a woman being assaulted by Greenwood circulated online. Greenwood was subsequently charged with attempted rape, coercive conduct and assault with inflicting bodily harm. Afterwards, Man United responded quickly by excluding Greenwood from training and matches.
Regarding the decision of the prosecutor’s office, Greenwood’s side said, “This matter is over. I express my gratitude to my family, loved ones and friends.”
However, it is expected that it will take some time for Greenwood to return to the pitch. A United spokesperson said: “We took note of the Prosecutor’s Office’s decision to drop the charges against Greenwood. The club will conduct its own investigation before deciding on next steps. We will not comment until the process is complete.”
