‘Explosive’ Toronto sweeps Boston, bodes well for Ryu on Aug. 8

By Jangwon Seo = The Major League Baseball (MLB) Toronto Blue Jays swept the Boston Red Sox behind an explosive batting lineup. It was good news for Ryu Hyun-jin, 36, who is one day away from making his first start.

Toronto cruised to a 13-1 victory over the 2023 Major League Baseball team on Sunday at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

With the win, Toronto (63-50) swept a three-game series against Boston, extending its winning streak to three games and gaining ground in the American League wild-card race.

Toronto’s firepower was on fire. They pounded out 16 hits, including one home run, to blast the Boston mound. Davis Schneider, batting third and starting at second base, pounded out four hits, including a two-run homer, while Brandon Belt, George Springer, Matt Chapman, and Kevin Kiermaier added multi-hit efforts.

Behind the offense, starter Chris Bassitt earned his 11th win of the season with seven innings of one-run ball.

After jumping out to an early lead with four runs in the third inning, Toronto added two more in the fourth and five in the fifth to put the game out of reach. They added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to complete the 13-run outburst.

Toronto’s explosion of offense is a good thing for Hyun-jin Ryu, who is one day away from making his first start.

Ryu will take the mound against the Cleveland Indians at 8:10 a.m. on Aug. 8 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Fresh off his big league debut (five innings, four runs) against the Baltimore Orioles, who have the best record in the American League, Hyun-jin Ryu will face a Cleveland team with a winning percentage of less than 5 percent (54-58).

Hyun-Jin Ryu is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in three career starts against Cleveland. The last time the two teams met was on August 4, 2021, when Ryu made his first start at the Rogers Centre, where he struck out eight in seven innings to earn the win. He also pitched at Progressive Field on May 29, 2021, tossing five innings of two-run ball in inclement weather.토스카지노

Cleveland lost Josh Bell and Ahmed Rosario at the trade deadline, and their only three-hole hitter, Josh Naylor, was placed on the disabled list.

Conversely, Toronto’s bats are hitting like a champ. This is the perfect matchup for Ryu to get his first win of the season and his first start back.
