Yonsei cruises to a 24-point victory over Sangmyung University.
Yonsei University won 74-50 against Sangmyung University in the 2023 KUSF University Basketball U-League at Yonsei University’s Sinchon Campus Gymnasium on Friday.
In addition to Lee Ju-young and Lee Chae-hyung, Yonsei missed Yoo Yoo-sang, Kim Bobae, and Kang Ji-hoon. Despite the injury woes, the team remained focused and won the game despite Sangmyung’s relentless pursuit.
Coach Yoon Ho-jin said, “The injuries keep coming. But fortunately, the game schedule gives us a break, so we’re trying to catch the pain without overdoing it. The thing we need to fix is that we kept coming out in the early part of the fourth quarter and played a difficult game. We realized that it’s not something that can be fixed right away and we need to be better prepared,” he said after the win.
“I think this year is harder than last year. One by one, players keep getting injured. Even Lee Min-seo was playing around 20-25 minutes, but when he played longer today, his feet got sore. It’s a shame because if the rest of the players played better, Min-seo could have rested more.”
Sophomore Yoo Yoo-sang, who was sidelined with an ankle injury, opted to sit out the rest of the regular season schedule. Like Yoo, Yoon is not planning to overuse big man Kim Bo-bae, who is also on the verge of being called up to the Universiade team.
“Yoo sprained his ankle in the first quarter of the Goryeo game, but he had the will to play and it was a big game, so I really regretted if I played him a little too hard. He’s going to sit out the rest of the regular season. I’m also trying not to push (Kim) Bae too much.”
As for Lee Joo-young and Lee Chae-hyung’s rehabilitation, he said, “They started playing cautiously. We are not doing intense physical training, but light jogging to check the pain. We plan to bring them back as carefully as possible while doing balance exercises.”
At guard, sophomore Lee Min-seo (20 points, 5 assists, 5 steals) shined.
Coach Yoon said, “There are still some things we need to work on. However, I think it’s positive that we are pushing the players to some extent on the points they can do well. However, we are hoping for the parts that can be assembled in the game operation, but there were situations where we handed over the atmosphere with complacent passes today, so I think that needs to be improved.”스포츠토토
Yonsei has been dealing with a number of injuries to key players, making the role of the backups even more important.
“They did a great job, but we ran out of gas and made some plays at the end that we shouldn’t have made,” Yoon said. We ordered a lot of organic plays, but our bad habits came out when we were struggling and we got caught up. That’s something we need to continue to work on, but I think we can get better if we make some corrections and give them more energy.”
