Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, is a strong skiing region, winning 127 gold medals, 58 silver medals, and 44 bronze medals in the cross-country event of the National Winter Sports Festival.
From the 88th competition in 2007 to the 103rd competition in 2022, except for the 102nd competition in 2021, which was canceled due to Corona 19, a cross-country athlete representing Hwasun won a medal at the winter sports event for 15 consecutive years. 안전놀이터
Such good grades began 16 years ago at Hwasun Elementary School. In 2015 and 2016, there were also runners-up at Hwasun Jeil Elementary School, winning 117 cross-country medals with 25 gold, 51 silver, and 41 bronze in the Winter Games in elementary school alone.
From 2020, Hwasun Jeil Middle School also won the Winter Sports Festival 10 times (Silver 7, East 3). The 104th cross-country competition, which will be held from the 17th to the 20th of this month, is also expected to have good results in both elementary and middle schools.
However, Hwasun Cross Country in South Jeolla Province, which has produced steady results over 10 years, does not yet have a high school division. Hwasun Jeil Middle School Ski Club Supervisor Noh Ki-yeong appealed, “Even if you work hard until middle school and develop your dreams, it is difficult to go on to higher education.”
If you want to continue cross-country skiing in high school, you have to transfer to Gyeonggi-do or Gangwon-do. Teacher Noh Ki-young explains that many students and parents give up sports because they are blocked by the reality of having to leave Hwasun far away.
Instructor Kiyoung Noh said, “All the ski team members, coaches and coaches work hard together to produce results. I want to create a better environment for students who grow up with dreams even in difficult circumstances.”
